A New Small Family Home in the Beautiful Suburb of Noordhoek
Nestled in the serene Noordhoek valley, this new family home enjoys a picturesque setting near the historic Noordhoek Village. The site is blessed with natural beauty, featuring running water, mature trees, and a meadow.
The clients initially sought to develop a masterplan for their recently purchased property, adopting a phased approach to suit their budget. The first phase involved creating a small starter home for their new family, with a larger family home added in the future.
Architecture in Noordhoek, South Africa, is deeply influenced by the region's history and climate, often described as Cape Vernacular. This style reflects simplicity, functionality, and harmony with the natural environment.
Characterized by whitewashed walls, single or double-pitched roofs, and minimal ornamentation, Cape Vernacular architecture draws inspiration from traditional Cape Dutch farmsteads or werfs—clusters of buildings typical of Southern African homesteads, including a main house and secondary structures. Buildings in this style often emphasise a strong connection to the landscape, featuring practical layouts with shaded verandas, thick walls for insulation, and large openings to capture breezes and natural light. These elements blend aesthetic charm with environmental responsiveness. For this project, the verandas and terraces were refined during the construction process to adapt to the required site levels.
The accompanying videos showcase the final concept design approved by the clients. Once the home is fully furnished and the landscaping matures, we plan to visit the site to capture photographs of this charming residence.
